Do you have trouble concentrating from time to time? Most people experience occasionally lack of focus. For others, staying focused it is more of a constant challenge. Are you consistently experiencing difficulties with concentration?
There are lots of reasons why you may have difficulty concentrating. Your routines and habits may impact your ability to focus (e.g., if you are not sleeping much or not eating enough, your ability to focus is likely negatively affected). It could be a side-effect of dealing with stressors in your life (e.g., coping with becoming a parent or caregiver or starting a new job). It could be related to many health issues. For instance, difficulty concentrating is a frequent complaint among individuals with mental health conditions, including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), and depression. Medical issues, such as thyroid problems, can lead to difficulties in concentration. Medication you are taking can also contribute to problems with focus. (webmd.com)
If difficulties concentrating are causing your functioning to be impaired and adversely impacting your life (e.g., affecting your work, school progress, relationships, etc.), it is important to get help. To rule out medical problems, you may want to start out by seeing your primary care physician.
